Newcastle upon Tyne is where I was born, bred and live , and I agree completely Russell.

I’m in the process of moving to Cumbria where my elderly parents live .

I’m sure most people ( but I suspect the people on this site), think that I’m possibly a nutcase, but I believe we are at the end of ……. times as we know it, and I want to be with my family and prepare for whatever is coming ……

Sorry - I digress ! Newcastle is such a special place for me , but absolutely, there are an awful lot of left leaning folk there .

Good to hear from a fellow Geordie!

Yes, there are very bad times ahead I'm afraid.

A sad, sad tale of a once-great country, Marxism has done its evil.

Yep. And the Uniparty, you could also say.

Same thing perhaps, not that they realise it.

I have only lived in North Shields since 2006 but visited regularly all my 66 years to watch NUFC and visit my Nan in Blyth.

Walking down Northumberland St recently I reminded myself that in the 1970’s/80’s and even the 90’s to see a non white face was very unusual, my walk down N’land street last month the demographic was probably 70/30 white.

Yes, it's transformed in the blink of an eye. I remember thinking in the 1990s there's no way Newcastle could ever go the way of the likes of Birmingham and London. But then along came Tony Blair and then the Tory clowns and liars. How naive I was...

Very moving...Old age is satisfying...the certainty that is absent from much of earlier life...

As you say people have to be careful what they say I had no less than 3 Criminal trials last year at Bath Magistrates court. All words. As Mussolini always said "Release me you give me pleasure, condemn me you do me honour".Alas the courts always honour me.!

My older brother and I both went to Newcastle University and my younger brother has lived in Whitley Bay for the past 30 years. His three children are very definitely Geordies. I have a very soft spot for the "toon" and this piece made me rather sad.

I think nowadays we find ourselves taking solace in a 'well, it's not as bad as X' attitude. So Newcastle still in many areas feels properly Geordie, unlike many other parts of the country, and I guess we should appreciate that.

I fear for the long term though and, like you, I feel very sad about it.
